Island Lake Board of Trustees
I have been a resident for 22 years and have kept up to speed on our towns current affairs. I’m a business owner and have been in my trade for 29 years. I have always operated in the black. I deal with small and large jobs including residential and commercial applications. We work with architects, builders, designers, home owners and municipalities. I communicate well with all levels of people. Recognizing peoples talents and showing trust in there ability and delegating the work load is my passion. When the results are positive, it makes all involved feel as part of a team. I can bring our town together with positive leadership.
First, We need to halt any progress on the construction of the proposed new municiple complex until we know where the money is going to come from. I would make any needed repairs to the current facility which suits our current needs at a considerable savings to use towards more pressing issues.
Second, I would remove the current law firm and replace them with one that works for the people and not the Mayor. We currently spend 7 times more in legal fees than when Charlie Amrich was Mayor.
Third, I would bring back transparancy to the residents. Presently we do not allow dialog or questions to be answered at public meetings. Comments Only. Also we need a vastly more informative VOIL website. All village meetings should be videotaped and posted on this site. Plus we need to load as much public information as possible on the VOIL site as to alleviate the burden of FOIA request on the clerk and office staff over info that is readily available on other community websites.
Yes, The local governments need to operate in the black sometime. Why not start now. Show the people that they can make the hard cuts that all tax payers are making. They need to prove their worth. I can not run my business like my local government does. If I did, I would already be out of money and out of business. We need commonsense approachs to spending within the proposed budgets.
The recent decision to amend the ordinance on public comment. They now have removed the ability to comment at the end of the public meetings to address any concerns over any agenda items discussed. It also includes more language that limits what you can comment about. Not good. First they sit silent when you address them and now they wish for you to sit silent.
I can’t name one. I suppose it would be to remove police dispatch from our police department, but I don’t fully agree with that decision. I seems to be all about the money and that has yet to be determined. I am concerned for our degree of future public safety due to this choice they made without public involvement.
I’m for the people. I want to here from all the residents all the time. I want to bring back the friendly community we once had. I want to spend money on better streets and park preservation and cleaning up the lake that is our name sake. Not spend it on a new village hall that only serves those that work there. I would bring back transparancy in every way possible so that residents will know what is going on and how they too can get involved. The people in charge want to create a new village that is something most people in town moved away from. I would bring back the small town community we need back in our lives. We don\\\'t need to copy surrounding areas that are falling into an endless debt stream. I would focus on fiscal reponsibility, Cooperative management, parks and lake preservation and infratructure improvements. When the residents see a better village and business recognizes reasons to come in, we can then enjoy the fruits of our efforts with added revenue and residential growth. Then we can expand and build newer facilities for our needs. Most likely with the support of the community.

My 40 years of experience of being an accountant in various industries. I also well trained in implementing lean management without services being diminished. I have been on numerous boards, and find solutions are more important then rehashing past mistakes.
Reviewing the expenses of the village and reducing the cost of running the village without losing services.
Bringing the village together, and allowing all voices to be heard. Reducing the misinformation that appears to floating around.
Addressing the needs of our children.
I would need to review the actual impact this may or may not have on our village, before I decide.
The dueling attorneys of McArdle and Ancil and Glink. The biggest waste of money I have ever seen, and for what? The only people who profited from this were the lawyers. The village residents footed the bill for this mess.
The current trustee’s for the most part, have learned to work together, and have stopped the dueling attorneys fees.
I have lived here for 28 years. My children grew up here. I have seen it all. The good, the bad and the ugly. I am an independent. The overall concern I have is doing the best thing for our village. Not being on one side or the other.
I grew up in Island Lake and I’ve been able to see it grow and progress throughout my life. I want to see it continue to grow and progress. Professionally, I’ve spent time volunteering to help underprivileged people in Chicago. It’s important to me to try and help out as many people as I can. Also, my experiences as an attorney and throughout my schooling have allowed me to communicate with people from all walks of life and with a wide array of viewpoints that differ from my own.
First and foremost, we need to maintain and improve the village’s infrastructure. We have roads that need to be fixed. The lake and parks need to be maintained. We cannot ignore the foundation of the town. It is vital to any growth or progress. Second, we need to continue to attract more viable businesses. More business means more tax revenue that can be used for the benefit of all Island Lake residents.
The goal should not be to freeze the levy, but to be as efficient as possible with every dollar so that we don’t have to worry about increasing the tax levy. It’s easy for a candidate to answer ‘yes’ to this question, but that doesn’t solve everything. A town can freeze the levy, but if they don’t budget and spend wisely, it could lead to cuts in important services or higher taxes down the road. We need to look at every avenue to cut costs or generate more revenue so that the taxpayers don’t shoulder the entire burden. Attracting more new businesses to the village is important to generate tax revenue and lessen the burden on the people.
The current board is working well together. Although it’s not one decision, my biggest disagreement was with the in-fighting and legal battles in 2011. There will always be disagreements in government, but a big part of being a public official is being able to discuss and debate issues in a civil manner. You won’t always get what you want, and when you don’t, you need to be able to handle that in the proper way. In-fighting between board members only serves to slow the progress of the town and takes time and money away from more important purposes.
The decision to transfer dispatch services to Lake Zurich. It was a decision that will save the village hundreds of thousands of dollars. We were able to transfer services to a newer, state-of-the-art facility that will provide great service at a lower cost. Those significant savings can now be used for the benefit of all Island Lake residents. It’s not often that you see a decision that both saves the taxpayers money and provides higher quality services.
I grew up in Island Lake and I want to see the village continue to progress into the future. I can provide a fresh take and a level of passion and energy that can help the village maximize its potential. I’m dedicated to being honest, open, and accessible to all residents at all times to discuss any questions or concerns they may have. I believe that my educational background and experiences can be an asset to Island Lake. I want is what is best for Island Lake, and I’ll work tirelessly to achieve that goal.
As a lifelong resident of the Village of Island Lake, I have acquired intimate knowledge of the parks, businesses, and residents of our community. With a career in administrative sales, I have a natural ability to effectively communicate with people while arriving at meaningful conclusions. As an Illinois State Scholar, I will dedicate myself in a swift and efficient fashion to further educate myself on the inner workings of local politics and to assist in leading the village in a favorable direction.
During the past few years, the village has made strides in attracting outside businesses. I believe this must continue to be of utmost importance in order to assist in our overall prosperity; I would dedicate myself to making certain that business opportunities would not be overlooked. In addition, while business development will generate tax revenue, increase property value, and provide necessary services for the community, we must not forget what gives Island Lake its charm. Parks and recreation, on land and water, were the primary draw to Island Lake originally. I grew up playing baseball on our fields, cycling through the trails, and swimming at our beaches. I aim to keep that tradition alive and help it to thrive.
After speaking with the mayor, I’ve concluded the best way to combat rising taxes is by focusing on vital business opportunities. By attracting businesses and developing vacant properties, the ensuing revenue will alleviate the residents from future tax burdens.
The timing of the decision to eliminate a portion of the public comment section was not exactly favorable. Transparency and open communication between residents and elected officials is a delicate issue and, while many of the neighboring communities have adopted similar formats, it must be handled as such.
The amendment to the comprehensive plan regarding the proposed annexation agreement for the west end of Island Lake has enormous potential for a variety of reasons. As stated before, attracting these businesses is vital to the progress of our community.
I have been a resident of the Village of Island Lake for all of my life; this town has given so much to me and I want to give back. If elected, I will lead with an open mind, evaluate both sides of public discussion, and cultivate conclusions based on what is best for the people of Island Lake.
Assistant Supervisor for Sears security at the Sears Tower. Thirty years as an Island Lake Police Officer. During those thirty years I headed the investigation unit, Juvenile division, administrative Sergeant, Commander, and Chief of Police.
Cut back on the extravagant spending by the village board. Reorganize the police departmentBuild a new police department building when economically feasible.
Yes freez them, as long as the services provided by thevillage are not effected negatively.
Attempting to construct a new village/police department when we can’t afford it. Half of our store fronts are gone. The state of Illinois has been slow in their payments to all of its municipalities.
the only thing this village board has accomplished is huge attorney fees for their own personal issues and vendettas against anyone who may diagreed with
I beleive i’m a fair and compassionate person. Just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion or ideas doesn’t mean they are bad or wrong. In a democracy we are expected have our own opinion or ideas that is what made this country great. I promise to make decisions on facts. To research village projects and search for other ideas and opinions. Village board memebers must always be cognitive on how tax revenues are spent.
