On the Record
What experiences do you have that make you a good candidate for office?
I was County Board Chairman for 3 terms, zoning board of appeals member and chairman and on the Crystal Lake Library Board. I very much enjoyed my service and learned to lead and to build a consensus with a group to achieve any accomplishments. Listening is the core of effective leadership in my opinion. I am also quit aware of the problems that go along with meeting daily household bills and having to be ready to pay the taxes on your property twice a year. I try to keep the Town taxes as low as possible & still do our job. The Freeze is on for the first two years of the elected officials salaries in our Township. Aso, the levy will not be moved up from last years.
What are your top two or three priorities if elected?
The Township is in good shape right now. I am aways watching for the physical side of the building because of it’s age and use so that it is kept in good repair. I would like to keep increasing the use of the building by the taxpayers so that they enjoy what they are paying for. I would like to find new programs for their enjoyment and use. As I answer this we have the AAAP people doing Seniors taxes in the lower level of the building and it is such a valued service.
Would you support freezing your taxing district’s levy until housing prices rebound? Why or why not?
We froze the levy this year and I see no dire impact on the Township services.Since I beleive that the housing market is on the way back I would say yes to this question unless the need for our General Assistance was going to be impacted.
What one decision by the township board do you most disagree with and why?
I disagree with the decision to pass the Township Junk and Weed Ordinance. It is very difficult to enforce. Even the Trustees have various understandings of it. It turns neighbor against neighbor. I think a small government such as a Township should leave this job to the County.
What was the biggest accomplishment of the board in the past year?
I think by freezing the first 2 years of the next elected Officials salaries and by keeping our levy the same the Board of Trustees gave the taxpayers a much deserved break.
Why should voters elect you to office?
I am a good caretaker of the office and treat the office as if it is “on loan” and not my private domain. I never forget who I am there representing. I love the work. I work well with the elderly and with people who need help. I will do my best to keep doing that.
